Jumpstart

For every $10 you raise Jumpstart will provide a book to a child in need!

Lo Bosworth's Very Virtual Book Drive!

Can you imagine your childhood without your favorite stories? Neither can we. But the fact is that most children in low-income communities have few, if any, age appropriate books in their homes.

We can all help change this statistic by participating in Jumpstart’s Read for the Record. Help us reach our goal - donate copies of The Very Hungry Caterpillar to this book drive and Jumpstart will deliver them to the children who need them most.

In addition to helping Jumpstart build home libraries, you can participate in Jumpstart’s Read for the Record by reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar with a child in your life on October 8, 2009. Help Jumpstart bring national attention to the importance of early childhood education by making Jumpstart’s Read for the Record the largest shared reading experience ever.

Please join the team and help us reach our goal of getting books into the hands of the children who need them most. To learn how to get involved on October 8, visit www.readfortherecord.org.

Who is Jumpstart?

Jumpstart is working toward the day every child in America enters school prepared to succeed. The sad fact is that children from low-income families are hit the hardest by America's school readiness crisis.  Consider these facts:

- Children from low-income communities typically enter kindergarten with one fourth the vocabulary of their middle-income peers.

- A child’s reading level in 1st grade is one of the best predictors of his/her subsequent performance in 10th grade

Jumpstart delivers on the potential of our youngest citizens, and we need your help to bring our intensive mentoring program, as well as Jumpstart’s Read for the Record, to tens of thousands of children who will miss out. Please support Jumpstart’s work and donate books for Jumpstart’s children living in low-income communities.
